A referendum was held in Switzerland on 27 September 2009. Two questions were put to the voters:[1]

Both proposals were accepted; abolishing the allgemeine Volksinitiative with a clear majority of 67.9%,[2] the financing of Invalidenversicherung with a good popular majority of 54.4% and very tight state majority of 12 out of 23 Stände.[3]
